The Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponça hosted one of the week’s most special days on Sunday with the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships Family Day. Away from the beach and with tennis as the main attraction, hundreds of families came to the venue to enjoy a day designed especially for the little ones, who were able to share unique moments with some of the tournament’s stars.

The morning began with a children’s press conference featuring Martín Landaluce. For a few minutes, the children became journalists and put the young tennis player from Madrid on the spot with questions about his dreams, his role models and his sporting career.

Landaluce revealed that he would love to play in a final against Nick Kyrgios here, that Wimbledon is his favourite tournament and that, when he was young, he had to choose between tennis and football at the age of eleven. He also explained how he deals with defeats and frustration: “Losing is part of the process and when you miss a point, you have to think quickly about the next one.”

The day continued with a visit from Champi, the tournament’s official mascot, accompanied by Fergus, the mascot of the sponsor Fergus Group, and by the mascots of three of the island’s leading sports clubs: RCD Mallorca, Palma Futsal and Atlético Baleares. Young and old alike took the opportunity to have their photograph taken with them during one of the liveliest moments of the morning.

Shortly afterwards, Luciano Darderi became one of the day’s main attractions as he posed for photos with dozens of fans. Alejandro Tabilo also spent some time with the younger children, recalling that Rafael Nadal was his childhood idol and jokingly making a promise: “If I win the tournament again, I’ll jump into the sea”.

The activities continued throughout the day with games, photo opportunities, autograph sessions and meet-and-greets between players and fans. A festive, family-friendly atmosphere that once again demonstrated that the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships continues to bring tennis closer to the younger generations.
