The Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships got underway with a first day of qualifying matches that largely lived up to expectations. High-quality tennis unfolded on the grass courts of the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponça on Saturday, with pleasant temperatures and a strong turnout of fans, who were treated to several high-calibre matches.

The action continues this Sunday with the start of the main draw. Centre Court will host the matches between Nuno Borges and Adrian Mannarino, not before 12:30 pm; Mariano Navone and Lorenzo Sonego, not before 3:00 pm; and Yannick Hanfmann and Álvaro Guillén Vallejo, not before 5:30 pm. Earlier, from 12:00 pm, the decisive qualifying matches will take place to finalise the tournament draw.

In Saturday’s matches, American Zachary Svajda and Slovak Alex Molcan lived up to their status as favourites. Svajda, the top seed in the qualifying draw, won 6–3, 6–3 and will face Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Damir Džumhur on Sunday for a place in the main draw. Molcan also wrapped up his match in straight sets and will face Murphy Cassone in the decisive round.

Australia’s Adam Walton, the second seed, also gave Bondioli no chance, advancing in two sets to set up a clash with France’s Ghibaudo. The day’s biggest surprise came with the defeat of Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko, the third seed, by Jordan’s Abedallah Shelbayh, who will now face Marc Polmans for a place in the main draw.

The day concluded without a single third set and with the elimination of Jamie Mackenzie, who had received a wildcard. Santa Ponça is already buzzing with the atmosphere of competition in a week that will once again bring together some of the leading figures on the ATP Tour on the grass courts of the Mallorca Country Club.

Family Day

Family Day begins at 11:00 am when the gates open, offering a full programme of activities for all ages. One of the highlights will be the players’ press conferences: the first at 11:30 am with Martín Landaluce, followed by a second at 5:00 pm.

At 12:00 pm, mascots from some of the island’s leading clubs will take to the stage, joined by ‘Champi’, the tournament’s official mascot. Visitors can look forward to a day designed to introduce tennis to younger audiences and further enhance the family-friendly atmosphere of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships.
