Italian veteran meets German newcomer: just days ahead of the Mallorca Championships presented by ecotrans Group, tournament organisers have confirmed two new additions to the draw. Wild cards for this year’s event, starting Saturday 21 June at the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponça, have been awarded to Fabio Fognini and Justin Engel.
Italian star Fabio Fognini, former World No. 9 and Grand Slam doubles champion, brings a wealth of experience and flair to the grass courts of Santa Ponça. Renowned for his creativity, shot-making and charismatic presence, Fognini remains one of the most recognisable names on the ATP Tour.
Joining him is Justin Engel, one of Germany’s most promising young talents. The 17-year-old rising star has recently impressed with his performances in Stuttgart and Halle. Engel has been awarded a wild card for both the singles and doubles draws, marking a significant step in his budding professional career. In doubles, he will partner with fellow German Andreas Mies, a Grand Slam champion and former World No. 9 in doubles.
The tournament line-up is further highlighted by the presence of Ben Shelton, one of the top seeds in Mallorca, who broke into the ATP Top 10 for the first time this Monday. The American, currently ranked World No. 10, will be one of the top attractions on the grass courts of Santa Ponça.
With a world-class field and the unique atmosphere of the Mallorca Country Club, the tournament promises a thrilling week of grass-court tennis in the final lead-up to Wimbledon!
