The Mallorca Championships presented by ecotrans Group officially kicked off its fifth edition this evening with a spectacular Opening Night held at the exclusive Mallorca Country Club. The event marked the beginning of a week filled with elite tennis, culture and entertainment, and brought together well-known figures from the worlds of sport, media and society.
The highlight of the evening was an exciting doubles exhibition match on the iconic Grandstand court, framed by the emblematic architecture of the Mallorca Country Club. Former World No. 2 Tommy Haas and German rising star Justin Engel faced off against Spanish player Pedro Martínez, one of the country’s top ATP players, and Xavi Palomar, a promising young talent from Mallorca. The German duo claimed victory 6–4 in a match that bridged generations of international tennis.
The red carpet and stands were filled with celebrities, athletes, public officials and special guests. Among the many attendees were Fabio Fognini, Jürgen Klopp, Bruno Labbadia, Charly Steeb, Franziska van Almsick, Laura Matamoros, Arthur Abraham, Roberto Blanco, Christina Bach, Klaus Dieter Trampert, Britt Hagedorn, Nino de Angelo and Eric Hoppe, among others.
The official welcome was led by Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of e|motion group; Toni Nadal, Tournament Director; and Pilar Carbonell, Director of e|motion sports Spain. The event was also attended by the Mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, the Deputy Director of The Balearic Islands Agency for Tourism, as well as representatives from the tourism and sports sectors of the Balearic Islands.
During his remarks, Toni Nadal highlighted the strong Spanish presence in this year’s main draw, with a special mention for Jaume Munar, one of the island’s most promising local players:
“We’re lucky to have several Spanish players in the tournament this year, but special mention goes to Jaume Munar, who came just two points away from beating Alcaraz yesterday. It will be exciting to watch his progress this year. As Mallorcans, we wish him the very best — hopefully, he’ll be playing in next Saturday’s final,” said the tournament director.
The Mallorca Championships presented by ecotrans Group begins officially this Saturday with the first matches of the qualifying rounds. The tournament runs through to Saturday, 28 June, when the finals will be played on Centre Court at the Mallorca Country Club in Calvià.
