The second day of main draw action at the Mallorca Championships presented by ecotrans Group showcased a wave of rising talents, saw early Spanish eliminations, rising stars, and featured a major milestone in the doubles draw.

Russian Roman Safiullin opened play on the Grandstand court with a confident 7-6(5), 7-5 win over fifth seed Alexandre Muller of France. Already leading the head-to-head, Safiullin maintained composure at key moments to improve his record to 4-0 against Muller.

In one of the tightest contests of the day, Arthur Rinderknech outlasted Damir Dzumhur 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 after more than two and a half hours of intense baseline rallies and momentum shifts.

Among the emerging stars, Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic delivered a commanding 6-0, 6-4 performance against American qualifier Nishesh Basavareddy, while fellow American Ethan Quinn, also a qualifier, defeated Argentina’s Ugo Carabelli 6-3, 6-2.

The most anticipated match came in the evening on Centre Court: a battle between the two youngest players in the draw. Learner Tien from the United States, 19, used his superior pace and experience to overcome 17-year-old German Justin Engel, winning 6-4, 6-4 in what became the youngest-ever match in tournament history - a true glimpse of the future.

For Spanish fans, the day brought disappointment. Both Jaume Munar and Pedro Martínez were defeated in their opening matches - Munar falling to Canada’s Gabriel Diallo, and Martínez bowing out against Corentin Moutet of France.

On the doubles side, Brazilian veteran Marcelo Melo achieved a historic milestone: his 650th career ATP match win. Partnering with Rafael Matos, the duo defeated Ivan Dodig and Orlando Luz, adding another chapter to Melo’s legendary career.

Tuesday will feature the tournament debut of local favourite Roberto Bautista Agut, the No. 7 seed, who recently reached the semifinals at Queen’s Club in one of his best weeks of the year. He faces Argentina’s Tomás Martín Etcheverry in the opening match at 13:00.

Later in the day, second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime will begin his Mallorca campaign against France’s Arthur Rinderknech, who comes off a long and gruelling win on Monday.
