Alejandro Davidovich Fokina ensured home representation in the last eight of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Championships after delivering a confident opening performance at the ATP 250 on Wednesday afternoon.

The second seed, the only Spaniard remaining in the draw, eased past qualifier Adam Walton 6-4, 7-5 to set a quarter-final showdown with former Top-10 star Grigor Dimitrov. Davidovich Fokina, who lost his only previous match on the Mallorca grass in 2023, dropped just eight points on serve in his 87-minute victory, according to Infosys ATP Stats.

“I knew that it was going to be a tough battle,” Davidovich Fokina said in his on-court interview. “He plays very solid and very aggressive with his serve, so I needed to focus on myself and try my best to break his serve. I had a couple of opportunities and I’m happy how I performed today.”

Competing as one of the top two seeds at an ATP Tour event for just the fifth time in his career, the 27-year-old Davidovich Fokina will now prepare for his third Lexus ATP Head2Head clash with Dimitrov. The Spaniard has defeated former No. 3 player in the PIF ATP Rankings Dimitrov in both their previous tour-level meetings, in Rome in 2021 and Monte-Carlo in 2022.

Dimitrov booked his quarter-final spot by overcoming a physically struggling Abdullah Shelbayh 6-2, 6-4 in the final match on Wednesday’s schedule. Jordanian Shelbayh competed with strapping around his upper right leg, and he was unable to prevent Dimitrov from earning back-to-back tour-level wins for the first time since Wimbledon 2025, when he led Jannik Sinner by two sets in the fourth round before retiring with a pectoral injury.

Ethan Quinn and Vit Kopriva will also face off for a semi-final spot in Mallorca after securing second-round wins on Wednesday. Quinn held off his fellow American Murphy Cassone 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-3, while Czechia’s Kopriva sank fifth seed Ignacio Buse 7-5, 6-1.
